Scars can form either from the result of a normal healing process after an accident, trauma, surgery or acne, or can be the result of an over-exuberant abnormal healing response. Several layers of skin are typically affected. Scars, once formed, are typically permanent, can often be disfiguring, and sometimes can diminish function –as seen with contracture scarring. People are affected in many ways by scars and there is often a significant emotional component to this injury. Dr Yeh performs Scar Revision procedures to make scars less visible – to restore normal function and a more pleasing appearance.

ABOUT SCARS:
There are several types of scars but these are the most commonly treated:
Hypertrophic Scars are those that occur within the boundaries of an incision or wound. They are typically thick, red and have an overall raised appearance.
Keloid Scars resemble hypertrophic scars somewhat in appearance, but differ because they grow outside (beyond) the boundaries of the incision/wound. Keloids are generally found on earlobes, shoulders and over breastbones, and are more common among patients with darker skin types.
Contracture Scars usually result from loss of skin over a larger body area. They are the most severe class of scars and are often the results of burns.
SCAR REVISIONS:
Several techniques, procedures and products are used today in Scar Revision treatments. Dr. Yeh will discuss this in-depth with you and determine which is best suited for your condition and needs. Possible options include steroid applications/injections, silicone gel sheets, Z-Plasty and other tissue-rearrangement surgical techniques, dermabrasion, skin grafts, injectable fillers, and laser resurfacing.
